Biggest Rally ever

NOTES FROM A SOCIAL SCIENTIST By Dr. Haider Mehdi “Can those who can see be equal to those who cannot?” – Al Qur’an. Today’s most important question is: Has the people’s revolution arrived in Pakistan? Indeed, Imran Khan’s promised “tsunami” hit the Karachi shores on Quaid-e-Azam’s birthday at Quaid’s ‘mizaar’ – a symbolic re-birth of Quaid’s [...]

Pakistan is resilient to fight to the last man

By Dr. Haider Mehdi On November 18, 1999, immediately after General Pervez Musharraf took over the helm of affairs in Pakistan, this columnist (Dr. Haider Mehdi) wrote a personal letter to him. The following is an extract from that letter. Consider the enormous accuracy of the predication of the political-military fallouts made over a decade [...]

Western hypocrisy is so obvious, dubious, and blatant now, thanks in part to global information resourcefulness, that a debate on the issue is simply a waste of time. Western political ideological objectives have become so intense and demanding, in fact obtrusive, that their capacity to participate even in a symbolic act of human reconciliation seems a fraudulent attempt at some kind of political deceit.

By Dr Haider Mehdi:
Take for instance the banners welcoming a federal minister (who is rated low in public esteem) that the new Punjab’s Governor hung on the Mall road all the way from GPO to Governor’s House. The Governor’s House main entrance in itself looks like an advertisement for a cheap theatre (rather, a circus) with its undignified billboards, welcome banners and posters. The point is all of this political triviality is of no significance: People in this country are not interested in this kind of charade of appalling flattery, not any more.

By Dr Haider Mehdi:
Unmindful of the fact that a mere change in the lexicon and terminology does not alter the nature of the reality of the lethal consequences of war that is inflicting terror on this nation and its citizens, the Pakistani image-makers are now trying to hide behind meaningless and empty words. How far can a political absurdity be extended?

By Dr Haider Mehdi:
So, given the political ground realities, what should the newly constituted Foundation for Fundamental Rights do? First and foremost is the need for the FFR to organize a massive campaign to legally challenge the present regime in Islamabad in the Supreme Court of Pakistan on the constitutional violations of conducting a foreign policy that allows a foreign power to wage an open war against its citizens.
