Israeli police caught assaulting 9-year-old Palestinian child

Secretly filmed footages revealed two Israeli Border Police officers dragging and kicking 9-year-old Abdul-Rahman Burqan
An Israeli officer of the Border Police was secretly filmed kicking a 9-year-old Abdul-Rahman Burqan while another officer held him.
The Israeli Information Centre for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories (B’Tselem) released video footage captured by one of its volunteers in Hebron, West Bank, on June 29.
Abdul-Rahman lives with his family near an area used by the Israeli army as a parking lot close to the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron.
The video shows an Israeli Border Police officer ambushing the child around a corner; as the child was walking past the corner; one officer grabbed him by the arm.
The officer then dragged the screaming Abdul-Rahman, who is heard crying and calling his mother, on the ground for a few seconds before another officer kicked him before releasing him.
B’Tselem said that the assault was caught on tape by a volunteer in its camera distribution project, from inside his own home. B’Tselem distributes the cameras so that the residents can film Israeli soldier and settler attacks against them and their lands.
B’Tselem said that its volunteer started filming when he noticed a soldier hiding behind the wall; there were no confrontation or clashes in the area.
Amar Burkan, the boy’s father, insists the attack was unprovoked and that his son did not hurl stones or curse them.
The father further claimed that the Palestinians are not allowed to pass through the alleyway where the incident took place during certain times such as on Jewish holidays, or when illegal Israeli settlers cross there. He suggested that the officers may have apprehended his son for that reason.
The organization said that it intends to refer the case to the Ministry of Justice so that the Police can investigate it.
Soldiers and settlers have been filmed numerous times abusing Palestinians, including villagers and shepherds; many of these incidents included the use of live ammunition, in numerous cases soldiers were present when the settlers carried out these attacks.
In a statement the Border Guard stated that they view the matter “with utmost gravity and denounce behavior that is contrary to the unit's values.
“This incident is unusual and does not represent the valuable work that the Border Guard officers do for the security of the state.”
